Which Cloud Path Should You Choose?

22-Mar-2026

A lot of people get stuck right here. You have decided to learn cloud computing. That part is clear. But now you are looking at Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud. It feels like you have to pick the perfect one.

Here is the thing. There is no perfect choice.

All three are solid platforms. All three are used heavily in the real world. And the core concepts you learn in one will easily transfer to the others. So instead of trying to pick the absolute best cloud, you just need to pick a starting point.

Step 1: Think About the Work First

People always ask if they should learn AWS or Azure first. But that is the wrong question.

A better question is what kind of daily work you actually want to do. Your job role matters a lot more than the specific cloud provider.

  • If you want to manage systems, look at cloud administration.
  • If you want to automate deployments, look at DevOps.
  • If you want to design systems, look at the architect path.
  • If you want to work with data, look at data engineering.

Once your goal is clear, the cloud is just a tool to help you do that job.

Step 2: Picking a Starting Point

If you are completely new to this, keep it very simple. Pick exactly one platform. Stick with it for a few months.

Here are the best starting points for each platform.

  • For Azure, look at the AZ-104 Azure Administrator path.
  • For AWS, look at the Solutions Architect Associate path.
  • For Google Cloud, look at the Associate Cloud Engineer path.

All three of these will teach you how cloud environments are actually structured. You will learn how basic services connect to each other. You are not locking yourself in forever. You are just learning the fundamentals.

Step 3: A Practical Look at Each Cloud

Let us look at each provider in a practical way.

Azure

Azure shows up everywhere in corporate environments. If a company is already using Microsoft tools like Office 365 or Windows Server, moving to Azure is a very natural step for them.

It also feels very structured for beginners. If you come from a traditional IT background, Azure will feel very familiar to you.

AWS

AWS is the biggest player. It has the widest range of services. It is used heavily by startups and huge tech companies.

This means you get a lot of flexibility. But it also means it can be very complex. If you want broad exposure and the largest amount of learning material available online, AWS is a solid choice.

GCP

Google Cloud is a bit different. The interface is very clean. It is often easier to understand when you are just starting out.

GCP is extremely strong when it comes to data, analytics, and modern container applications like Kubernetes. If you prefer a streamlined experience, GCP is a great place to start.

Step 4: A Simple Way to Decide

If you just want a quick answer to help you move forward, use this guide.

  • If you want something structured that fits well with traditional IT, choose Azure.
  • If you want the most widely used platform in the world, choose AWS.
  • If you want a clean interface and want to focus heavily on data, choose GCP.

And if you are still completely unsure? Just pick Azure or AWS. You really cannot make a bad choice here.

Step 5: Mistakes People Make All the Time

Here are a few things that will completely slow down your progress.

  • Trying to learn Azure, AWS, and GCP all at the same time.
  • Spending three weeks comparing them instead of actually studying.
  • Switching platforms after just two weeks because it gets hard.
  • Thinking your first choice has to be absolutely perfect.

Progress comes from actually building things. It does not come from making decisions.

Step 6: Test Your Knowledge as You Go

This is where a lot of people struggle. They learn passively. They watch hours of video. They read tutorials. But they never actually test themselves.

A much better approach is to learn a specific topic and then immediately take a short quiz to find your weak spots.

This is exactly how you can use the daily practice quiz on ExamOS. Start with the Rookie mode to test your basic vocabulary. Move on to Challenger to see if you actually understand how the services connect. And once you think you are ready for a real certification exam, try the Legend mode. Testing yourself early keeps you honest about what you actually know.

Final Advice

Pick one cloud provider today. Give it a few months of focused study. Learn how the core pieces actually work together.

After you understand one cloud, learning a second one becomes much easier. The hardest part is simply starting.
