FAQ
The GH-600 certification validates your ability to operate, integrate, supervise, and govern AI agents inside production-grade SDLC workflows and development environments. This exam targets engineers who manage agents that run within the GitHub platform, ensuring reliability, safety, and velocity. You'll demonstrate skills in preparing agent architecture and SDLC processes, implementing tool use and environment interaction, managing memory and state, performing evaluation and tuning, orchestrating multi-agent coordination, and implementing guardrails and accountability. You should have experience with the software development lifecycle, GitHub workflows and controls, and coding agents including GitHub Copilot, MCP servers, and agent customization.
Exam details: 120 minutes, passing score of 700 out of 1000, and a registration fee of $83 USD (regional pricing varies). The certification is valid for 12 months and renews free through an online assessment on Microsoft Learn.

| Domain | Weight | What This Means |
|---|---|---|
| Prepare agent architecture and SDLC processes | 15–20% | Integrate agents into the SDLC, define inputs, outputs, and success conditions, configure agents to output structured plans, block agent operations before review, and identify common agent anti-patterns |
| Implement tool use and environment interaction | 20–25% | Configure MCP servers, define tool scopes and permissions, integrate agents with external environments, and manage tool execution safely |
| Manage memory, state, and execution | 10–15% | Design short-term and long-term memory, manage session state and execution context, and control what agents retain across runs |
| Perform evaluation, error analysis, and tuning | 15–20% | Evaluate agent outputs using scans and artifacts, analyze errors and failure modes, and tune agent behavior for reliability and safety |
| Orchestrate multi-agent coordination | 15–20% | Coordinate multiple agents safely, design orchestration patterns, manage dependencies, and handle agent-to-agent communication |
| Implement guardrails and accountability | 10–15% | Configure guardrails for autonomous behavior, enforce accountability controls, and implement oversight mechanisms in GitHub |
Implement tool use and environment interaction is the heaviest domain at 20–25%, covering MCP servers, tool scoping, and environment integration. Evaluation and multi-agent coordination together account for 30–40% of the exam.

GH-600 is designed for professionals who operate, integrate, supervise, and govern AI agents inside production-grade SDLC workflows, using GitHub as the system of record and control plane. Target roles include AI Agent Developer, DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer, and Application Developer.
There are no mandatory prerequisites. The exam assumes experience with the software development lifecycle, GitHub workflows and controls, code quality and security practices, GitHub Copilot, MCP servers, and agent customization (custom instructions, custom agents, tools, and Copilot setup steps).
The certification is valid for one year from the date you pass. You can renew by passing a free online assessment on Microsoft Learn. If the certification lapses, you must retake the full proctored exam.
If you do not pass, you can retake the exam 24 hours after your first attempt. For subsequent retakes, the waiting period varies. Full details are available in the Microsoft certification retake policy.
GH-600 validates that you can operate, supervise, and govern AI agents in production SDLC workflows. It qualifies you for roles such as AI Agent Developer, Agentic AI Engineer, DevOps Engineer (Agent Systems), and Platform Engineer. As organizations adopt agentic AI systems, certification in GitHub agent workflows positions you for teams building and operating autonomous agents at scale.
