FAQ
The SAP-C03 exam validates your ability to design distributed systems and complex architectures on AWS. This professional-level certification targets senior architects who design solutions for organizational complexity, build new cloud-native and AI-integrated architectures, improve existing workloads, and lead migration and modernization efforts. You'll prove you can architect across accounts, regions, and hybrid environments using advanced networking, security, cost optimization, and disaster recovery strategies.
SAP-C03 adds 11 new generative AI and agentic AI skills, including Amazon Bedrock integration, RAG architectures, Bedrock Guardrails, and human-oversight workflows. It also introduces resilience engineering, cloud-native patterns like VPC Lattice and Step Functions durable workflows, DevSecOps observability, data lakehouse architectures, and post-quantum cryptography. As AWS environments grow in complexity and AI adoption accelerates, professional architects who design holistic, scalable, and intelligent systems are essential to large organizations.

| Domain | Weight | What This Means |
|---|---|---|
| Design and implement cloud-native architectures | To be announced | Build modern containerized, serverless, and service mesh architectures, including AI integration |
| Security, compliance, and governance | To be announced | Architect multi-account guardrails, end-to-end data protection, and post-quantum encryption migration |
| Design cost-optimized architectures | To be announced | Apply FinOps across organizations, control AI inference costs, and select optimal compute and storage pricing models |
| Resilience, migration, and business continuity | To be announced | Design chaos engineering, automated failover, disaster recovery, and workload migration strategies |
| Operational excellence and automation | To be announced | Implement full CI/CD automation, DevSecOps auditing, AI/ML metrics monitoring, and multi-account observability |
Important: AWS has reorganized SAP-C02's four domains into five domains for SAP-C03. The full exam guide, including task statements and domain weightings, publishes on October 27, 2026 when registration opens. Until then, treat any published percentages as unofficial estimates.

The SAP-C03 exam consists of 75 questions with 180 minutes of testing time. Question types are multiple-choice and multiple-response. The exam is delivered through Pearson VUE, either at a testing center or online proctored. The format is unchanged from SAP-C02.
The passing score is 750 out of 1000 on a scaled scoring system. The exam fee is $300 USD, plus applicable taxes. AWS may offer a 50% discount voucher for a subsequent exam after you earn a certification; check your AWS Certification account for eligibility.
The SAP-C03 exam guide organizes content into five domains. Domain weightings have not been published as of October 2026. The domains are:
| Domain | Focus |
|---|---|
| Design and implement cloud-native architectures | Serverless, containers, modern application patterns |
| Security, compliance, and governance | IAM, encryption, compliance frameworks |
| Design cost-optimized architectures | Cost management across complex environments |
| Resilience, migration, and business continuity | DR, migration, fault tolerance |
| Operational excellence and automation | Observability, DevOps, monitoring |
The current SAP-C02 four-domain structure (organizational complexity, new solutions, continuous improvement, and transformation) is reorganized into these five domains. Domain weightings will be published with the full exam guide on October 27, 2026.
The update adds several new content areas:
| Area | New Content |
|---|---|
| Generative AI and agentic AI | Amazon Bedrock, Bedrock AgentCore, RAG architectures, Bedrock Guardrails, human-oversight workflows (11 new skills) |
| Resilience engineering | AWS Fault Injection Service, AWS Resilience Hub, Application Recovery Controller, automated runbooks |
| Cloud-native patterns | Serverless data pipelines, Step Functions, VPC Lattice, container image security, multi-tenant architectures (7 new skills) |
| DevSecOps and observability | Pipeline vulnerability scanning, multi-account deployment pipelines, AI/ML metrics monitoring (6 new skills) |
| Data and analytics | Lakehouse with Lake Formation and Apache Iceberg, real-time pipelines, AWS Clean Rooms |
| Post-quantum cryptography | ML-DSA and ML-KEM support in AWS KMS |
The largest addition is generative AI and agentic AI, at 11 new skills.
SAP-C03 is designed for experienced architects who provide expert guidance across multiple applications and projects in complex environments. Target roles include Solutions Architects, Cloud Architects, Infrastructure Architects, and Technical Leads.
AWS recommends two or more years of hands-on experience using AWS services to design and implement cloud solutions. There is no formal prerequisite certification. You do not need to hold the Associate-level certification before sitting SAP-C03, though associate-level knowledge is a practical foundation.
The certification is valid for three years from the date you pass. To recertify, you can pass the current version of the exam or a higher-level AWS certification. AWS does not offer a separate renewal exam for Professional-level credentials.
If you do not pass, you must wait 14 calendar days before retaking. There is no limit on the number of attempts, but you pay the full fee each time. Once you pass, you cannot retake the same exam for two years.
SAP-C03 validates expert-level architectural judgment across security, resilience, cost, migration, and operations. It strengthens candidacy for Principal Cloud Architect, Senior Solutions Architect at AWS Partner Network firms, Cloud Migration Lead, and Enterprise Infrastructure Architect roles. The certification is a differentiator in technical interviews, not a substitute for hands-on experience.
| Certification | Exam Code | Focus |
