The AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional (DOP-C02) is intended for individuals who have two or more years of experience provisioning, operating, and managing AWS environments. It validates a candidate’s ability to automate the testing and deployment of AWS infrastructure and applications. While there are no formal prerequisites (you do not need an Associate-level cert first), AWS strongly recommends having a deep understanding of at least one high-level programming language and a firm grasp of modern development processes and methodologies.
The DOP-C02 is a comprehensive exam consisting of 75 questions that must be completed within 180 minutes. The questions are either multiple-choice (one correct answer) or multiple-response (two or more correct answers). Because this is a Professional-level exam, the questions are often lengthy, scenario-based narratives that require you to synthesize multiple AWS services into a single, automated solution. Time management is critical, as you have roughly 2.4 minutes per question.

Unlike Microsoft Associate/Expert exams, you must rely entirely on your memory for CLI syntax, service limits, and integration details. You will be provided with a digital notepad or physical scratch paper for diagramming complex architectures, but all technical knowledge must be pre-learned.
The exam is scored on a scale of 100 to 1,000, and a minimum scaled score of 750 is required to pass. Points are not deducted for incorrect answers, so it is in your best interest to answer every question. The registration fee is $300 USD. However, if you have passed an AWS certification previously (like the Developer or SysOps Associate), you will have a 50% discount voucher waiting in the "Benefits" section of your AWS Certification Account. Using this voucher reduces the cost to $150 USD.
If you do not pass the DOP-C02 on your first attempt, you must wait 14 calendar days before you are eligible to retake it. You can take the exam as many times as you like, but you must pay the full registration fee (or use a voucher) for every attempt. You cannot retake the exam if you have already passed it and your certification is still active.
